In 2016, Aston Martin launched one of the prettier concepts we’ve ever seen: the Vanquish Zagato concept. The limited-edition supercar was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy.
The British automaker only made 99 units of the road-going version of the concept and all were scooped up quicker than $1 hot dogs at the ballpark. Now, one has popped up on eBay for $1 million.
When Aston Martin announced the vehicle, it didn’t disclose how much its 99 buyers had to shell out for an example. Granted, this is a coupe, but compared to the $1.5-million Volante we spotted less than a month ago, its asking price is much lower.
Underneath its bespoke carbon-fiber bodywork, it utilizes the same underpinnings as a regular Vanquish. That means power comes from the same V12 engine as the grand tourer. While global examples put out 600 HP, U.S.-spec ones only had 576 HP. Which is, of course, more than adequate, but nothing like the current crop of supercars that are also significantly more affordable. Even so, Aston claimed the Vanquish Zagato could hit to 60 mph (86 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds.
With its drop-dead looks and amazing performance, the Vanquish Zagato is a rare breed – but it’s more than just a good looker. The vehicle was part of a long lineage of cars that Aston made in collaboration with Italian design-house Zagato. The brands have been working together for nearly five decades, so this vehicle is a piece of history.
While $1 million is a lot of money, it’s really not a bad price for what you’re getting. The example, being sold through Los Gatos Luxury Cars in Los Gatos, California, is number 79 of 99 and one of just 15 units in the United States, which makes it incredibly rare. Plus it only has 26 miles on it, so it’s practically new.
