The LAPD was involved in a chase two weeks back after two burglary suspects were spotted trying to get away in a white fifth-gen BMW 5-Series.

The chase began right before noon, March 23rd, in the Topanga area, reports the LA Daily News, and concluded at the Westfield Culver City mall, right by the 405 freeway. Despite setting up a perimeter, police officers were unable to find the suspects.

“Officers have located evidence related to the burglary and our detectives will be conducting follow-up investigation to locate the suspects,” said the LAPD in a statement.

Before making their escape, the suspects were chased down via helicopter. Based on the description of the video, the chase began in the Sherman Oaks area, ran through West Los Angeles and came to a halt once the car was driven into the parking garage of the shopping mall.

It’s possible this getaway was part of a well-thought up plan, or at least one where the suspects realized that staying on the freeway would eventually land them in police custody – these chases almost never end well for the bad guys.

Trying to ditch the car somewhere out of sight was probably their best chance of getting away by blending in with other people at the mall. Hopefully though, that parking structure had enough cameras pointed their way, so that detectives can go ahead and eventually identify the culprits.
