Chevrolet and Shell are introducing the first ever in-dash fuel payment system, making the need to swipe a credit card or using your mobile device obsolete.

In order to use this feature, you’ll have to press the Shell icon within ‘Marketplace’ on your touchscreen, and select your preferred Shell-branded station location.

Following a few more taps on-screen, a code will be generated allowing you to activate a specific pump and start fueling.

The payment itself is then automatically charged to the payment method on file, with Fuel Rewards savings applied. Behind this new technology lies Chevy’s Marketplace function, a commerce platform for on-demand reservations and purchases of goods and services.

“We introduced Marketplace to deliver value, productivity and convenience to our customers,” said Chevy online commerce exec, Rick Ruskin. “Bringing the Shell Pay & Save functionality right on the touchscreen of our vehicles is the latest advancement of this platform, allowing drivers to simply access Fuel Rewards® and pay for gas while inside their car.”

Through Marketplace, Shell can help customers find their way to their nearest Shell station, while also providing them with information about the station amenities and the ability to sign up for the Fuel Rewards program.

The technology is currently being tested in select markets, with a nationwide roll-out planned in the coming months. Marketplace is available on eligible 2017MY and newer Chevrolet vehicles in the U.S.
