If you’re a car fan in the United States with a cable television package, chances are you’ve watched a show or two on the Velocity channel. Now that channel is being re-branded as the Motor Trend Network.
The new channel will continue airing popular programs like Wheeler Dealers, Bitchin’ Rides, Barrett-Jackson Live, and Garage Squad. But now it will also include video content from Motor Trend as well. At the same time, subscribers to the Motor Trend OnDemand service will get access to Velocity’s programming as well.
Even those without a cable package will be able to view content on motortrend.com and on the Motor Trend App. The app is already available on iOS, Google Play, Roku, Xbox, Chromecast, and Amazon.
The restructuring will allow Discovery and Motor Trend to expand access to markets outside the United States as well. The company recently launched on Amazon Channels in the UK, for example, and will soon launch a free-to-air television channel in Italy.
“No other global media company has the content, and both the TV and digital platforms, to deliver what auto enthusiasts want than Discovery,” said group president Michael Lang.
“This rebrand of our JV into one, over-arching single brand, Motor Trend, continues Discovery’s long-term digital ambition; underscores our commitment to serve passionate global auto-related superfans with the world-class content they crave; and provides OEMs, buyers and advertisers with an unparalleled one-stop, 360-degree branded environment to reach this coveted audience segment across all screens and platforms,” he added
The rebranding comes as part of Discovery‘s comprehensive restructuring of TEN: The Enthusiast Network as the Motor Trend Group. TEN is a joint venture between Motor Trend’s publisher Source Interlink, Discovery Communications, GoldenTree Asset Management. In addition to the headline property, it includes other automotive publications like Automobile, Hot Rod, and Truck Trend.
