The 5.2-liter V8 engine in the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 and GT350R that’s codenamed Voodoo is one of the best sounding motors on the road at the moment. Somehow, the crew at Hennessey Performance worked their magic on the sports car and made it sound even better.

A few years ago, Hennessey got their hands on a Shelby GT350 and bumped it up to 575 hp (428 kW), which we thought as a lot at the time. But knowing the tuning company, we felt like they left a lot on the bone and we were right. Fast forward to the summer of 2017, and the tuning company was back. That time, though, it was with an 850-hp (633 kW) example.

To get that kind of power out of the V8, Hennessey placed a supercharger onto the motor and added a bunch of other new parts. The HPE850 upgrade package, somehow, maintained the same GT350 roar that we’ve all come to love. That’s definitely not a bad thing, but the company’s latest package, the HPE1000 makes the GT350 sound like a supercar.

Hennessey hasn’t released any specs behind the new package yet and the video below is just a teaser of what’s to come. But the name definitely gives the power rating away, as we expect the beast to have 1,000 hp (745 kW). It also sounds like a different animal to the regular GT350.

We really wish there was a way to mute the awful music playing in the background, because we really want to hear the glorious exhaust note, but it still shines through at a few points in the video – mainly towards the end. The harsh burble from the naturally-aspirated engine is still there, but the way those turbos whistle and woosh is reminiscent of the Pagani Huayra.

If you can take a $60,000 car and make it sound like a $1 million supercar, you know you’re talented. By the way it sounds, we’re sure the HPE1000 upgrade for the GT350 won’t be cheap.
