The Ferrari 488 Pista is the latest and greatest in the Italian automaker’s lineup of track-hardened vehicles. It follows in the same vein as the Ferrari 430 Scuederia and 458 Speciale as a track-focused machine. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see the 488 Pista blitz around Ferrari’s Fiorano track.

While the 488 Pista doesn’t sound as good as the 458 Speciale that it replaces, it’s more powerful. The supercar features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that generates 711 horsepower (530 kW) and 568 pound-feet (770 Nm) of torque. With that kind of power, it can get to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 2.85 seconds.

The car is also incredibly quick around the track, as Ferrari’s chief test driver, Raffaele De Simone, found out in the video below.

According to Autovisie, the supercar managed to lap the track in a time of 1:21.5. While that doesn’t sound very fast, there were a couple of things that stopped De Simone from going all out. For one, the outlet’s editor was in the vehicle, adding extra weight to the machine.

The second thing, is Fiorano’s “gas off” zone. Ferrari’s personal test track is located near some local residents that don’t like the sound of a supercar at full throttle. In order to keep the residents happy, the automaker requires drivers that are testing on the track to lift off the throttle during a section of the track. That, to us, sounds absurd, because we’d pay extra money to live close to place where automakers test their high-performance machines.

Lastly, the car is one of the 15 prototypes in existence. And Ferrari, reportedly,  has some work left to do. Still, the car looks like it’ll be one heck of a riot for people that can afford one of the examples.
