Restomodding Porsches has skyrocketed in popularity, especially after Singer Vehicle Design showed up for the first time with its 911. The Kaege Retro Porsche 911 was born after Roger Kaege first laid eyes on the Singer 911.
The German vehicle and chassis engineer isn’t afraid to admit to Petrolicious that he was inspired by Singer’s work but claims that his own creation takes a different path than the cars of the Californian builder.
Instead of using a 964, Kaege opted for a rear-drive Porsche 993 to serve as the basis of the Retro, as his goal was to create the perfect modern vintage 911 with as many original Porsche parts as possible to keep costs down.
Sure, the retro-themed bodywork is new and made out of carbon but the oily bits underneath it keep this Porsche reliable and serviceable. And despite paying tribute to the vintage 901 model series, the Kaege Retro is still a relatively modern Porsche, targeted more at everyday use rather than the track.
Thanks to the carbon bodywork, the Kaege Retro tips the scales at just 1,195kg (2,634lbs) while the entirely revised 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine produces 296hp (300PS).
As you would expect, every Kaege Retro is built to spec, allowing customers to create the Porsche 911 of their dreams. It might not be just like a Singer but it still is a beautifully retro 911.
