The Fast and The Furious roared into theaters nearly 17 years ago and it has spawned seven different sequels and a live show.
While some would debate whether or not the movie was worthy of such a massive franchise, Mitsubishi Motors UK has created a one-off L200 which will play a starring role in the Fast & Furious Live arena tour which kicks off later this month.
Described as a “radically reworked” version of the L200, the double-cab pickup has been equipped with an external roll cage which “wraps around the wheel arches, front bumpers and custom-fabricated, laser-cut metalwork.” The truck’s bodywork has been customized to give its unique suspension as much travel as possible. Other unique features include a two-tone livery with orange accents, a side-exiting exhaust and massive rear wheels which measure 15×15 inches.
Interior changes are relatively minor but Mitsubishi says the cabin has carbon fiber bucket seats and four-point racing harnesses.
Power is provided by an upgraded 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. Mitsubishi declined to release performance specifications but said the engine has been equipped with a new Garrett turbocharger, a custom manifold and a 3D printed air intake. The truck also has an optimized ECU, a larger intercooler and a high-performance air filter. Thanks to these modifications, the engine should produce significantly more power than the standard model which has up to 181 PS (133 kW / 178 hp) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque.
The L200 is one of three Mitsubishi vehicles that will appear in Fast & Furious Live as the show also uses a special Lancer Evolution which “fans help create during a unique interactive segment of the show.”
In a statement, the CEO of Fast Live Productions said “The truck sits perfectly alongside the incredible vehicles that have captivated viewers of the Fast & Furious franchise and is one for audiences to look out for in our adrenaline-packed production. We’re very grateful for the support of Mitsubishi in the arena and behind the scenes.”
