We’ve already established that the new generation Mercedes-Benz CLS is both comfortable and sporty, with the platform of the latest E-Class and a stylish body on top of it.
It doesn’t cut back on power either, even if the automaker won’t launch a full-blown AMG CLS63 variant with the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, as this is reserved for the upcoming GT 4-Door Coupe.
Instead, those interested in the range-topping flavor of the executive four-door coupe can look into the AMG CLS53. This is a mild hybrid model that combines a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an EQ Boost starter-alternator for a total output of 435 PS (429 HP / 320 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque.

The powertrain is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Officially, it takes just 4.5 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) and has a top speed of 270km/h (167mph).
However, if you’re not interested in mild hybrids, then perhaps the CLS 450 4Matic is the ride for you. It’s powered by a 3.0-liter engine with 367 PS (362 HP / 270 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, and is only 0.3 seconds slower to the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint than the AMG 53.
This is the model, with the Edition 1 pack that adds a few bells and whistles, chosen by AutoTopNL for their latest POV test drive video that you can enjoy by clicking on the video that follows.
