Ever heard of the Ertiga? It’s basically a Swift minivan, and has been on the market (in certain markets) for about six years. Now Suzuki has revealed a new version and stylistically, at least, it’s further differentiated from the hatchback with which it shares its underpinnings.
Presented at the Indonesia Auto Show in Jakarta, the new Ertiga is longer than its predecessor. Stretched by 130 mm (over 5 inches), the minivan now measures a little longer than a Mercedes B-Class or BMW 2-Series Active Tourer. In contrast, the previous model was closer in size to an A-Class.
The increased length means more space inside for people and cargo, and the three-row people-hauler has room for seven inside. As little as we’ve seen of the cabin space thus far, the manufacturer says the interior is “decorated with delicate dashboards and woodgraining decorations.”

Over that enlarged chassis, Suzuki has fitted entirely new sheetmetal with sharper creases and more dynamic styling overall. Power comes from a 1.5-liter engine of undisclosed specifications. But given that the outgoing version incorporated smaller four-cylinder engines, we can expect the new one to adopt something similar.
Suzuki reports that this segment accounts for about 30 percent of new car sales in Indonesia alone, so the new Ertiga represents a vital model for the automaker and the markets in which it’s sold. The automaker will continue manufacturing it in both India and Indonesia both for local consumption and for export. Since its introduction in 2012, Suzuki has sold over 680,000 units in 70 countries around the world.
