We get that many people will struggle with the idea of a Lamborghini SUV, especially one that appears to share nothing of the sheer craziness of the iconic LM 002. But the new Urus is certainly a car that requires our attention.
It’s the vehicle that will effectively allow Lamborghini to create more supercars in the future, as the company expects doubling its sales once it goes on sale this summer.
But the new Lamborghini Urus must feel like a Lambo and push the boundaries of what an SUV can do, otherwise what’s the point of having one?
Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that makes 650PS (641hp) and 850Nm (627lb-ft) of torque. Despite weighing 2,197kg (4,843lbs), the Urus can catapult itself to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.6 seconds and reach 190mph (305km/h) flat out.
Lamborghini wants the Urus to behave like a proper sports car on the track and offer one of the best off-road capabilities in the market, so the Italians have thrown everything they had at it; active roll-bars, a torque-vectoring rear differential, massive carbon brakes with 10-piston calipers, six drive modes for the road and track and another three for off-road driving, the list goes on and on.
So, what it’s like then? Autocar delivers its first drive impressions on the video below.
