While we know an all-new Toyota Supra is just around the corner, the Japanese marque is remaining quiet on many key details. Fortunately, a new tidbit of information has emerged from an interview conducted by AutoRAI with Toyota’s European vice president of research and development, Gerald Killmann.
While speaking with the publication, Killmann revealed that the 2019 Supra will be easily distinguished from the current GT86 and that includes from a pricing perspective.
“It will not be a cheap car. There will be a clear difference between the GT86 and Supra. The GT86 remains the affordable sports car, the Supra becomes the performance model,” Killmann revealed.
The 2019 Supra may be cheaper than the next BMW Z4
It’s impossible to know exactly how much the new Supra will cost based on these statements, but consumers shouldn’t be surprised to see a starting price upwards of $60,000. As a matter of fact, the previous-generation twin-turbo iteration of the Supra cost roughly $80,000 in today’s money.
Beyond the vehicle’s pricing, Killmann confirmed that no hybrid version of the Supra is on the cards. Instead, the car will be sold exclusively with a gasoline engine, details of which remain unconfirmed.
Our sources, however, suggest that a 3.0-liter turbo-six engine will be used with around 335 hp at 5500 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque on hands. This should be enough to launch the new Supra to 100 km/h in under 4.0 seconds. Sadly, a manual transmission won’t be offered and the sports car will be sold exclusively with a dual-clutch transmission.
