We’ve grown accustomed to seeing automobiles wrapped in all sorts of shape-disguising camouflage wraps. But those are mostly pre-production prototypes captured in spy shots by our expert shutterbugs. And while we’re sure there are plenty of aftermarket customizers who’d be glad to wrap your car in a similar camouflage motif, we don’t expect to be able to actually order one that way straight from the dealership.
That’s just what BMW has announced, however… and, tellingly, just in time for April Fool’s Day. Humorously announced as an Original BMW Accessory for the X2 “sports activity coupe,” the matte wrap combines a full spectrum of colors into one very… well, unconventional appearance, to say the least.
It’s the same wrap we saw on prototypes of this very vehicle. And in typical German fashion, the announcement doesn’t skimp on the details. According to the manufacturer, the wrap is designed to fit around the matte-grey body cladding around the bumpers, the angled wheel arches, and the side moldings – including on those equipped with the M Spot and M Sport X trim packages. And it could be applied in four days. There’s even a pair of sneakers made to match by Munich-based shoemaker VOR, we’re told.
Of course, we don’t buy any of this for a minute. But the manufacturer encourages interested parties to inquire at their local dealerships for pricing and availability, which would be sure to elicit a good laugh or two from any BMW salesman. So go ahead and ask, if you’re so inclined. Just don’t expect to get any closer than these images below.
