Hyundai is putting the final touches on its facelifted i20 and was recently spied testing a thinly-disguised prototype in Turkey.
These images, snapped by Carscoops reader Faati in Turkey, show a light blue prototype with significantly less camouflage than previous prototypes. In fact, only the front and rear fascias and three-quarter panels are covered from view. By comparison, a similar prototype we spied last year also had body cladding on its doors.
Beneath the camouflage at the front is tipped to be Hyundai’s new hexagonal grille, redesigned LED daytime running lights, an overhauled bumper, and round fog lamps. It seems apparent that a new bonnet has also been designed.
Styling changes continue at the rear. For example, there are new taillights with revised graphics that have been accompanied by a new bumper. The license plate also mounts on the tailgate rather than on the bumper like the outgoing model.

A shot of the interior also shows some difference there, although they appear to be very minor. For example, the central air vents are a slightly different shape and this particular car features blue trim to match the exterior paint. The central screen seems to be largely unchanged from the outgoing model but has inevitably received updated software.
On an engine front, we don’t expect to see any notable improvements. Depending on the market, the current i20 is sold with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol, 1.2-liter petrol four-cylinder, 1.25-liter petrol four, 1.1-liter diesel, and a larger 1.4-liter diesel. If these engines do receive any tweaks, they will probably be focused on improved efficiency.
Considering the fact that the facelifted Hyundai i20 has been testing at least nine months now, it is inevitable that a debut will occur within the next six months, potentially at a large event like the Paris Auto Show in 2018.
