The VW Amarok grows stronger, as customers are now able to order the German pickup truck with a new, more powerful version of the 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine producing up to 268hp during overboost.
The new range-topper was previewed by the two Amarok concepts shown last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show and is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 TDI producing 254hp (258PS) and 427lb-ft (580Nm) of peak torque, instead of the 220hp (224PS) and 405lb-ft (550Nm) offered by the previous range-topping Amarok.
The V6 diesel engine features a 14hp overboost function for a total of 268hp as well, and sends its power to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Customers are able to order the top-spec engine option in the Amarok Highline and Aventura models.
The most powerful VW Amarok will be distinguishable from a number of visual mods. For example, the Amarok Aventura will feature 20-inch “Talca” wheels in Dark Graphite, a sports bar in vehicle body colour and bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights as standard.
The cabin features a roof liner, pillar trim and other roof elements finished in titanium black. The seats are also dressed in titanium black Nappa leather.
VW also offers a new Peacock Green paint finish exclusively for the new 254hp Amarok, alongside the matt paint Indium Grey and Ravenna Blue options.
The first Amarok models with the 254hp V6 engine will arrive at dealers from the middle of June. Prices start from 51,384 euros ($63,400 in current exchange rates) for the Amarok Highline and from 58,072 euros ($71,500) for the Amarok Aventura in Germany. VW has already opened the order books in Germany while first deliveries in the UK are expected in September.
