The PSA Group keeps expanding its DS brand with a growing line of vehicles: mostly hatchbacks and crossovers and the like. Along the way, it has also showcased a few concept cars, and here’s our first look at the next one.
Previewed in this teaser video for the first time, the DS X E-Tense concept is supposed to forecast what the French automaker could be making 17 years from now. That is, if the year 2035 holds the promise of performance EVs running amok on our city streets.
We don’t have much to go on at this early stage. But from what little we can see so far, it looks to be rather sporty. It’ll owe that bit in no small part, we gather, to the E-Tense FE 19 electric racing car that DS Virgin Racing will field in the Formula E championship next season.
Given the E-Tense handle that DS is applying to its electrified models, we can expect some manner of battery-powered propulsion. Maybe a trick hybrid, maybe a quartet of hub motors mounted at each corner. We don’t know just yet, but it looks promising.
From the video, it looks like DS could be preparing two versions: one with a closed cabin and another with a offset open single-seat cockpit. Given the proximity of the show, and PSA’s major investment in the Chinese market, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the concept (or concepts) debut at the Beijing Auto Show later this month, so stay tuned.
