The Mercedes-AMG GT might have been out of production for four years, with Stuttgart making the lesser GT its top sports car, but it remains an incredibly capable, and popular, supercar.

It’s therefore no surprise that different examples keep popping up in our news feed. And they’re either for sale, terrorizing bystanders with their loud aftermarket exhausts or drag racing.

This particular SLS AMG falls in the last category and features an ECU upgrade, turbochargers, tuned gearbox and others work carried out by GAD Motors. The result is 990 horsepower, which, on a good day, allows it to run the 1/2-mile (804 meters) at 300.73km/h (186.86mph).

Said car was filmed recently during a Race1000 event in Germany. Unleashed against the clock, it eventually met a very potent Jeep Grand Cherokee at the start line.

However, things didn’t exactly go as the owner of the SLS expected, as right after the drag race started, something went very, very bad. The SLS AMG can be seen veering off the road suddenly, going off the runway and coming to a full stop on the grass.

It’s hard to tell what exactly led to this outcome, but it probably was a technical fault. Luckily, nobody was injured, not even the expensive ride, but it’s going to need to pay a visit to the doctor for a proper inspection – and, of course, to find out, and fix, whatever it was that caused this incident.
