Those longing to see the other-worldly Aston Martin Vulcan racing competitively will be overjoyed by news that the track-only hypercar will compete at Le Mans.
Before you ask, no, the Vulcan won’t compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Instead, there will be two examples running during the Aston Martin Racing Festival that’s set to be held on the same day as the endurance race at La Sarthe.
All up, there will be 38 cars from Aston Martin competing in the 45-minute race. Other models include Aston Martin Vantage GT2s, GT3s, GT4s, at least one Vantage GT3 and GT1-spec DBR9s.
Discussing the move to allow the Vulcan to race, Aston Martin Racing president David King said the brand is simply catering to the desires of certain owners.
“We’ve been running the track day program with our customers for a while now and there is a small element wanting to race them. The cars are built to a full-race specification in terms of safety, so we are happy to give them that chance.”
A selection of familiar faces will compete in the Aston Martin Racing Festival. For example, ex-Formula One driver Martin Brundle will be racing, as will Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Sir Chris Hoy. Additionally, Aston Martin chief executive Andy Palmer will jump behind the wheel of a Vantage GT4.
