Are you into the Lamborghini Urus but cannot afford its six-digit starting price? Well, if you live in China, then we have some good news for you.
A company called Huansu Auto, with ‘huansu’ meaning ‘magic speed’, which is owned by BAIC, is getting ready to launch a clone of the Italian super SUV. The as-of-yet-unnamed machine was previewed in a couple of official renderings and is said to debut early next month.
From a visual standpoint, the Chinese copycat has a slightly different front fascia and a modified rear end that looks somewhat in the same vein as the BMW X6. Meanwhile, the design of the wheels appears to have been inspired by the real Lamborghini Urus, at a first glance at least.
Chinese media reports that Huansu Auto’s SUV will be priced between 100,000 and 150,000 yuan. This equals to $15,583-$23,375 at the current exchange rates, so that’s about the same as a 2018 Ford EcoSport in the United States.
It appears that unlike the Lamborghini Urus, the clone will be offered with five and seven seats, and will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, making some 150 horsepower.
As strange as it might seem, this isn’t actually the first Lamborghini Urus ripoff. That position is currently held by Zotye, another Chinese automaker mostly known in the West for copying the Porsche Macan.
Still, Zotye’s high-riding vehicle is apparently in concept form, but if everything goes as planned, then China will have at least two different Urus clones, from as many automakers.
