Award-winning actor Idris Elba will review a wide range of stunning cars in a new film for Grand Basel focused on automotive masterpieces.
The setting of the show will be the iconic Lingotto automobile factory in Turin, originally being used as Fiat’s new car manufacturing operation, and then as a hotel, convention center and shopping facility.
The goal is to remind viewers of the connection between cars and art, design, architecture and lifestyle.
“Grand Basel is the first global show for the world’s most important and valuable automobiles of the past, present and future,” stated Global Director Mark Backe, who came up with the idea for the film. “It presents an international audience of connoisseurs, collectors and enthusiasts with the epitome of automotive culture, aesthetics and technological sophistication.”
What sort of cars will we be seeing?
Elba will get behind the wheel of multiple exceptional automobiles, such as the 1978 Lancia Sibilo Bertona, a unique prototype with a monolithic wedge design. He will also drive the 2015 Zagato Mostro, a one-off 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Zagato with a bespoke body, and a 2018 GFG Sibylla, created by Giugiaro in partnership with Envision.
Both the Lancia and the Alfa Romeo are part of Milanese architect Corrado Lopresto’s personal collection, which focuses on rare cars, prototypes and bespoke models from Italian manufacturers and coach-builders.
Grand Basel will kick off in Basel, Switzerland, from September 6-9, followed by shows in Miami Beach, from 22 to 24 of February 2019, and Hong Kong in May 2019.
