In the age of the 24-hour news cycle, television news has become a machine which constantly spews out information which may or may not interest viewers. In the U.S., the media thrive on police chases and love nothing more than bringing live pictures of criminals driving dangerously to millions of TVs across the country.
Unfortunately, things don’t always go to plan. Case in point, KTLA in Los Angeles accidentally filming an innocent man and his car from a helicopter.
This clip, picked up by Reddit, shows the network’s helicopter tracking a slow-moving black sedan as it drives beneath an underpass. When it re-emerges, the camera locks straight back onto it but there’s one small issue. The helicopter has started filming a second black sedan which exited the underpass.
It’s unclear if the man on the run intentionally slowed down to let the second sedan overtake him and confuse the helicopter or if it was a happy accident. Either way, the KTLA news crew starts filming and commentating on the innocent man as he drives through and parks at a gas station.
It is quite amateurish for the film crew to be so easily fooled and to not know the difference between the two sedans.
Here’s hoping police helicopters are a little more reliable when tracking criminals.
