Porsche deserves more credit that it’s getting for its transaxle sports cars, especially when you are faced with a 924 Carrera GT.
Based on the 924 Turbo, the Carrera GT was created for homologation purposes and is instantly recognizable from the wider fenders and the offset air scoop on the bonnet.
The latter is feeding an intercooler mounted on top of the engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 207hp over the regular Turbo’s 168hp. That might not sound impressive by today’s standards but combined with a weight figure of 1180kg (2601lbs) and Porsche’s engineering made the 924 Carrera GT a pretty sweet handling car that loves to be driven hard.
Porsche made 406 924 Carrera GTs which were followed by 59 Carrera GTS models that featured fixed headlights, more power and less weight. But that’s not the end of it as Porsche built 17 GTR race cars, which are known as the ultimate version of the 924. The 924 GTR was capable of doing 180mph, thanks to the 375hp of the 2.0-liter engine and a 930kg (2050lbs) weight figure.
Magnus Walker is a well-known figure in the Porsche community. The dreadlocked collector shows Petrolicious his personal 924 Carrera GT which unsurprisingly features a custom paintjob and wheels.
Don’t let the four-cylinder engine put you off as the Porsche 924 Carrera GT is a true homologation special and deserves all the love it can get.
