During the occasional track day, one can encounter all sorts of cars on the Nurburgring, from the occasional hot hatches to the original Honda NSX – ven minivans.

Nevertheless, most pale in comparison to the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. After all, it holds the lap record for the fastest rear-wheel drive production car on the Nordschleife, after covering the 20.6 km (12.8-mile) circuit in 6:57.3 last September.

The model seen here wasn’t exactly pushed to the limit, as the driver described it as a “relaxed Nurburgring lap”. He admitted that it will be quite a challenge to be faster in the new 911 GT2 RS than in the 911 GT3 RS, and since being faster requires lots of practice, we reckon he’ll take it out again in the near future.

The latest 911 GT2 RS not only has a blistering performance and supercar looks, but a supercar price tag to match them, too: $293,200 in the United States, to be exact. That’s quite a hefty sum to pay, but it comes with a claimed 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint of just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h) courtesy of clever aerodynamic and that twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine.

The latter pumps out a healthy 690 HP (700 PS / 515 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque, which are channeled to the rear axle through a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission. Small wonder that the driver wasn’t pushing that hard; after all, the ‘Ring is notorious for not forgiving even the tiniest error, and 700 PS is a lot of power, clever aerodynamics or not.
