Even if your intention is to clear an intersection for an incoming road train, doing so at the expense of your own safety is a really irresponsible move.

It’s obvious that the person driving the white Hilux should have just waited for the rig to pass, as well as for any traffic that would have previously been (and was) out of sight. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened and the Toyota ended up rolling over after getting hit by the Jeep.

This is how it went down according to Paul, one of the Jeep’s occupants:

“First day of our trip, 10 km south of Katherine NT, we are in a Jeep Grand Cherokee towing a 2 tonne camper, Hilux driver didn’t see us, thought he was doing the right thing by the truck by clearing the intersection.”

“Everyone walked away with only minor cuts and bruises, side curtain airbags saved his life! Moral of the story, if you can’t see, don’t go!”

Paul is definitely on point with his assessment. If you can’t see, and therefore predict whether or not your move could result in an accident, then just stay put and don’t risk your, or others’, life.

One thing the driver of the Jeep might have done different would have been hitting the Toyota’s truck bed, instead of plowing directly into the driver side door – but it’s possible they didn’t have enough time to react anyway.
