“The factory design, fit and finish of the S-Class are definitely up to the car’s status,” admits Atanas Vilner, “no doubt about that. But, sometimes you can initiate a totally different experience inside with just a little touch.”
Hence the Bulgarian customizer’s latest project. It’s a Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabrio – one of the most luxurious and expensive four-seat convertibles on the market. But Vilner’s taken it even further.
Given the attention Mercedes already pays to the interior of its top drop-top, Vilner left the center sections of the seats intact. But it crafted new side bolsters and lumbar support from brown perforated leather. They’re stitched in a contrasting white wave pattern, and did the same with the interior door panels and dashboard. It even refinished the key to match.
What it didn’t change was the engine. The AMG S63 packs a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 good for 585 horsepower (436 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. Channeled to all four wheels through a seven-speed transmission, it’ll rpocket from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds. And the top will fold away in 20 seconds, revealing Vilner’s intricately crafted cabin space.
“20 seconds later and the soft top hides away into the car’s rear deck. In even less time, you can decide whether you love or don’t what shows up underneath,” said Atanas Vilner. “Very often your opinion is formed in even less than the 3,9 seconds it takes for the car go to 100 kph.”
