It may have pulled its factory-backed team off endurance racing, but Porsche continues to celebrate the success of th 919 Hybrid and recently brought one example onto the streets of New York City.
Hot on the heels of setting an outright lap record at Spa-Francorchamps, Porsche decided to raise the ride height of one of its 919s and drove it through the city that never sleeps. Why? Well, why not?
Unsurprisingly, locals were flabbergasted by what they saw and some funny reactions are featured in the short video. Porsche performed a similar stunt in London back in September 2016 when the Le Mans-winning race car drove through the streets of England’s capital.
The 919’s world tour will continue until October and make various stops and attempt to break a series of track records, like it did in Spa.
On May 15, the unrestricted 919 Evo will hit the Nurburgring Nordschleife, but it remains unclear if it will attempt a lap record there or not.
Either way, the racer will then hit another European circuit in June, followed up by one in Asia and then the Goodwood Festival of Speed in mid-July. Porsche will then take it back to Spa before shipping it off to Brands Hatch in September and, later that same month, Laguna Seca in the U.S.
