Restomodding a Ferrari is something you don’t see every day, especially when prices of the brand’s classic models are in a continuous upward trajectory.
It would take a special kind of owner to even think of modifying a classic Ferrari, but lucky for us, famous car collector David Lee decided to restomod a 1972 Dino 246 GTS, giving it more power and modernizing it in crucial areas. The result is this: the Dino “Monza 3.6 Evo”.
Lee sent the car to UK’s Moto Technique in order to overhaul it using only Ferrari parts. More than 3,000 hours of work and over a million dollars later, the car was ready. The original 192hp V6 has now given its place to a 3.6-liter V8 that produces 400hp and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The alloy engine block comes from a Ferrari F40 and is mated to a pair of four-valve heads from a 348, throttle bodies, fly-by-wire throttle, titanium conrods and a bespoke crankshaft.
The five-speed manual transmission comes from a 328 and the brakes are from a 360, while the chassis was reinforced in its key areas with box sections and seam welding. Everything looks like it came from the factory this way – even the 17-inch alloys are custom designed to look like the original (but smaller) Campagnolos.
Without a doubt, this is one special car. Jay Leno takes us for a tour around the Dino Monza 3.6 Evo on the video linked below.
