Due to the stricter CO2 emission rules and manufacturers choosing downsizing as the optimum response, big V8s are becoming an endangered species.
However, we still have quite a few models with large V8s pushing insane amounts of power to the road at our disposal.
Such a car is the previous-generation CLS63 AMG. Created in a time when the Affalterbach brand hadn’t been fully integrated into the manufacturer’s lineup, it was Merc’s rival to the likes of the Audi RS7 and BMW M6 Gran Coupe.

From a performance standpoint, its twin-turbo’d V8 had more than 550 horsepower for a 0 to 62mph (0-100km/h) sprint in just a little over 4 seconds and a top speed electronically capped at 155mph (250km/h).
This particular example paid a visit to the Renntech tuning school and emerged with an impressive 700 horsepower, plus a discreet body kit.
It also has an aftermarket exhaust system that makes it sound like it’s possessed. We don’t know the specifics behind it, but it sure sounds terrific.
