By now you should already know the basics about the Bugatti Chiron, the hypercar king of today’s automotive world and one of the most impressive engineering achievements ever.

The numbers are jaw-dropping: a 16-cylinder 8.0-liter engine with four turbos offers 1479hp (1500PS) and 1180lb-ft (1600Nm) of peak torque from just 2,000rpm. The power is then sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission specifically made for Bugatti.

The acceleration figures are equally mind-boggling, with 0-62mph (100km/h) coming in 2.5 seconds, 124mph (200km/h) in 6.1 seconds, 186mph (300km/h) in 13.1 seconds and 249mph (400km/h) in 32.6 seconds. That not a lot of seconds if you think about it.

Right now, top speed is limited to 261mph (420km/h), with Bugatti still not sure what the Chiron will do flat out. Even so, the Bugatti Chiron is the current fastest production vehicle in the world.

But numbers are just part of the Chiron’s appeal; this is Bugatti’s masterpiece after all, claiming to offer the absolute best in quality, materials and purely artistic detailing. Of course the main star here is the ridiculous levels of over-engineering involved, which is something you won’t find in a hypercar anywhere else.

Doug DeMuro gives us a tour inside and out of the Bugatti Chiron, revealing all the little details that make the current hypercar king a car worthy of its $3 million-plus price tag.
