The Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² may be able to carry luggage galore and tackle extremely difficult terrain, but it’s about as impractical as a tank when it comes to everyday use in a city or town. Jon Olsson has managed to somewhat rectify this with his latest project.
Late last year, the mad YouTuber decided to cut the roof off his G500 4×4² to create the most insane convertible G-Class ever. Well, work on the vehicle has been finished and it is indeed from another world.
Olsson went as extreme as possible with the roof conversion. Rather than simply cutting off the roof but leaving the pillars and side windows, everything above the top of the doors has been cut away, excluding the windshield which itself has been narrowed.
The initial idea behind chopping the roof off a G500 4×4² was to ensure the outlandish SUV could fit into small underground parking garages. Thanks to the slim windshield, it can do just that.
In place of where the trunk used to be now sits beautiful teak wood that takes inspiration from the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.
What else has been changed? Glad you asked. For starters, the wheels and tires from the G63 6×6 are now featured alongside an Akrapovic exhaust system. Additionally, there’s a white, black, and grey camouflage wrap just in case the lack of a roof didn’t make this G500 stand out enough.
Under the hood, mechanical modifications see the twin-turbo V8 engine boosted to 780 HP. Why? Why not.
