There’s a stereotype that SUVs will roll over if provoked around a corner. In reality, most modern SUVs are hard to flip thanks to much improved suspension setups – plus, of course, the electronic nannies keeping all the wheels on the ground.
Nevertheless, the driver of this Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe somehow managed to roll it, seemingly with little effort.
This clip, recently shared on Reddit, was reportedly captured in the French city of Nantes and shows the moment the matte grey GLE 63 AMG flips after the driver appears to pin the throttle while trying to speed around a roundabout.
Obviously, provoking a heavy SUV like this isn’t the smartest thing to do, but it nevertheless does seem odd how easily it flipped and became like a turtle resting upside down on its shell.
For starters, it’s almost certain that the driver turned off the traction and stability control systems in an attempt to get the rear wheels to lose traction. Additionally, the roundabout itself does appear to have quite a steep gradient angled upwards towards the center, helping to unweight the left wheels.
Combine these elements with a driver who looks like he/she had a brain freeze and the inertia of a heavy SUV and you have a recipe for disaster.
To make matters worse for the driver, the expensive SUV was reportedly rented for a wedding. Hope they have a comprehensive insurance, or else…
