Maserati used to build sports cars that could keep pace with the best from Ferrari and Lamborghini. And it may yet again. But these days it’s more focused on sedans and crossovers. Pretty fast ones, too. But Novitec is here to make them even faster.

The German tuner has come out with a range of enhancements for the Ghibi GranLusso and GranSport. They’re available for a range of gasoline and diesel engines offered on the mid-size Italian sedan. But the one we’re most intrigued by, of course, is the most powerful among them.

By fitting its latest N-Tronic engine-control module, Novitec has increased output from the twin-turbo V6 in the Ghibi S or the all-wheel-drive S Q4 from 430 horsepower (316 kW) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque up to 494 hp (363 kW) and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque. That’s enough to send it rocketing from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds, increasing the top speed from 178 mph (286 km/h) to 184 (296).

Need a more economical diesel? That’s alright, ’cause Novitec can help you there, too. The 3.0-liter diesel six gets an extra 47 hp (35 kW) and 59 lb-ft (80 Nm) to drop the 0-62 time down to 5.6 seconds – seven tenths quicker than before.

Along with the engine enhancements, the tuner’s also offering a sportier exhaust and aero kit. Developed in the wind tunnel and crafted from carbon fiber, the package includes a choice of two front spoilers, new rocker panels, and rear spoiler. Of course there’s new rolling stock on offer: 22-inch Novitec NM1 alloys fitted to an adjustable coilover suspension. And there’s a full range of interior enhancements available to the customer’s taste as well.
