All you need to have some genuine off road fun is a hacksaw, a trashed BMW X5 and some friends to help you with the welding.
The original BMW E53 X5 was a milestone model for the Bavarian car maker, as it introduced BMWs to the SUV world. It was one of the sportiest SUVs in the world when it was originally launched, with BMW calling a SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) instead. However, it was not very capable at the off-road stuff.
This project started with a car that was probably sitting abandoned in a junkyard, all dented and sorry-looking, before a group of friends took it and started hacking things off it. Things like the roof, the windshield, the door window frames were gone in the pursuit of off-road hooning.
An external roll bar took the roof’s place while installing massive off-road tires required some fender trimming. This BMW X5 just got a lease of new life and the end result looks equally parts of awesome and terrifying.
We don’t know if the powertrain was modified too, with the video pointing out that this is the 4.4-liter V8 version. We guess that the lightened shell in combination with the V8 power would have no problem in tackling deep mud pits, even if the powertrain was left untouched.
