Luxury flagships are meant to offer the absolute best in technology and features, acting as halo cars for their makers – and the 2019 Audi A8 is a prime example of this practice.
It’s the first Audi to feature the company’s newest dashboard layout that includes three large displays, one for the instrument cluster and two for the infotainment and HVAC controls. That’s a lot of screens, but the gadgets don’t stop here.
The new Audi flagship is actually the first production model to offer a Level 3 autonomous driving system, but in reality this feature won’t be activated in the US until various infrastructural and legal issues are resolved. Until then, a classic Level 2 system will have to do.
Want more gadgets? How about a set of retractable air vents featuring touch-sensitive controls? Or electronic door handles? Perhaps the crystal clear surround-view camera system is the one that impresses you the most. Or maybe the three tablets for the rear passengers. You get the idea.
While the gadget count is pretty impressive, the chassis technologies do not lag behind. Rear-wheel steering system? Check. A camera-based active suspension that predicts bumps and tunes itself accordingly? Certainly.
Doug DeMuro managed to find a Euro-spec A8 in the U.S., so you can get a detailed tour of the new German flagship in the video linked below.
