The fourth generation Skoda Octavia has already entered testing phase, with our spy photographers catching a mule on camera a couple of months ago.
From a visual standpoint, there isn’t much to talk about, as that car kept the body of the current Octavia. However, French AutomobileMag claims that when the new generation Octavia comes into the picture, it will drop the previous-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class-like double headlights and adopt a more classic look.
The plastic surgery is said to bring a new and larger grille with chrome inserts, along with revised taillights and a different interior design equipped with the latest technology, likely including a new infotainment system and the now trendy digital instrument cluster.
Beneath the skin, the redesigned Skoda Octavia will use an updated version of the MQB platform. The same architecture will also be adopted by the Volkswagen Golf Mk8 that’s due next summer, as well as the next Seat Leon and Audi A3.

Powering the Czech compact car will be several petrol engines. It’s still too early to talk about details, but it appears that the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit will be found under the hood, making some 200 horsepower, topped by an RS (vRS) derivative that’s expected to benefit from around 250hp.
Moreover, the company doesn’t seem to be interested in dropping diesels from the upcoming Octavia, which is said to gain a new 1.5-liter oil burner that will replace the current 1.6-liter unit.
Further down the road, the next-gen Skoda Octavia is also expected to go down the electrified lane, with a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain.
An exact reveal date for the car is unknown at the time, but it’s believed to arrive either towards the end of 2019, or the following year.
