Seven years ago, Audi launched the closest thing to an RS1: the A1 Quattro. The performance-oriented version of the supermini was assembled in 333 units, so it’s rarer than a Bugatti Veyron.

The brand with the four rings chose to offer all of them in a Glacier White paint, high-gloss black accents, and a set of retro-inspired wheels.

Select sporty accents were added inside, too, but the most impressive upgrades remain hidden away and include the engine, the modified chassis and bigger brakes to cope with all of that power.

Speaking of which, the Audi A1 Quattro gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. It produces 256PS (252hp / 188kW) and 350Nm (258lb-ft) of torque, and works in conjunction with a six-speed manual gearbox to deliver output to the all-wheel drive system.

Back when it was new, Audi claimed a 5.7-second time for the 0 to 100km/h (0-62mph) acceleration, and a top speed of 245km/h (152mph).

However, despite being a true automotive unicorn, some Audi A1 Quattro owners wanted even more power. Such as the example depicted on film below that paid a visit to MTM, from where it came out with no less than 380PS (375hp / 280kW).

So, how does an insanely powerful supermini feel like from the driver’s seat in the year we’ve been treated to an entirely new A1? You’re just a click away to find out.
