Aston Martin surprised everyone when they decided to stuff a giant V8 engine into the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet.
Created as a one-off for a customer with deep pockets, this extremely powerful city car was unveiled at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
And it wasn’t only for show purposes, because the Aston Martin V8 Cygnet was demonstrated on the famous hill climb, unleashing the entire 430 horses produced by the 4.7-liter engine taken from the old Vantage S.
If you’re curious just how quick this bonkers Toyota with Aston Martin badges is, that would be 4.2 seconds required for the 0 to 100km/h (0-62mph) run, and a top speed of 274km/h (170mph).

Of course, taking the four-pot out and installing a V8 required more than one brainstorming sessions. Nevertheless, in the end, the British brand’s engineers managed to overcome all obstacles, and besides the updated pretty much everything, they worked close with designers, too, for the modified bodywork.
There’s even a roll cage inside, which serves two purposes: added rigidity and increased safety. With all upgrades in place, this Cygnet weighs 1,375kg (3,031lbs), or almost 400kg (882lbs) more than the stock model.
The Aston Martin V8 Cygnet is very exciting from the driver’s perspective, who, most of the times, doesn’t know what to expect from such a unique project. Carfection had the chance to have a go in it, and they have released a video in which they shared their ideas, and even though it’s not your average review, it’s probably the closest thing to it.
