Most people are familiar with how annoying parking garages can be, especially when they’re poorly laid out or just packed to the brim with cars.
All too often, people are in a hurry to either find a parking spot, or make a quick exit to avoid a queue. As for cyclists, or even pedestrians walking to and from their vehicles, they need to be extremely careful since visibility is never a strong suit within these types of structures.
Of course, accidents can happen in multiple ways, even when there’s perfect visibility. This particular crash took place in Melbourne, Australia, and from what we gather, there’s literally no excuse the Audi driver could use to explain why they turned right in front of that cyclist, and got on the brakes so late.
Yes, the Q7 did brake, but not before it had almost hit the cyclist, who went on to collide with the car anyway, unable to go around it.
Could both parties be at fault though? Legally speaking, the driver shouldn’t have made that right turn. At the same time, cyclists should also stick to their designated lane, which is something we don’t see here – at least not in this particular section of the garage. Also, eye test alone, the rider was going a bit too quickly.
According to the description of the video, the cyclist only suffered minor injuries (you can see him grabbing his back), while the bike was heavily damaged.
