After more than a year of testing, the BMW X2 M35i is edging closer to showroom floors and, as this clip reveals, it could be quite a punchy crossover.
This particular prototype is practically undisguised save for some camo over the front air intakes. Reports state that the car will come equipped as standard with the M Sport package, which includes a new front fascia. Additionally, the vehicle wears larger M alloy wheels and beefed-up brakes with blue calipers.
Beneath the skin, the X2 M35i is expected to be powered by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder delivering 300 HP. The next most powerful variant in the X2 range is the xDrive28i, which delivers 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Consequently, the M35i will easily outperform its sibling, which can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.3 seconds and has a 143 mph (230 km/h) top speed. It is entirely possible that the M35i’s 0-60 mph time will dip into the low 5-second range while top speed should climb to the, customary for German brands, 155 mph (250 km/h).
Apart from the extra performance, the X2 M35i also sounds a bit angrier, at least as far as we can tell from this video. Which, of course, is a good thing since, apart from a full-on, M Division prepped X2 M, this is going to be the top dog in the range.
The X2 M35i will be revealed before the year is out, and although there’s no info whatsoever, the Paris Auto Show seems like a possible venue.
