It’s been known for a while that Tesla is working on artificial intelligence technology but we still haven’t got any solid information, at least until now.

Welcome to another Twitter-sourced Tesla news story, where we take a look at Elon Musk’s latest activity on the social media platform and try to figure out what’s going on behind Palo Alto’s closed doors.

When a fan asked Musk about the use of “K.I.T.T. like AI” in Tesla cars, Musk responded simply with a “Yes”, revealing that the electric car maker is indeed working on the technology.

Previous reports said that Musk wants to add an A.I. assistant in Tesla models, in the form of an advanced voice control system. Tesla’s CEO has said in the past that the new system will allow drivers to do “pretty much anything via voice command”.

Tesla focusing on a better voice command system makes sense since the interiors of its cars are pretty much devoid of physical buttons and knobs. An advanced AI voice assistant will also be welcomed for another reason; Tesla’s vehicles don’t support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

We’ve already seen other companies introducing new systems that support natural language commands in the form of a discussion, so imagining Tesla doing something similar isn’t that much of a stretch.

As far as the K.I.T.T.-like approach, it will not be Tesla’s first time using pop culture for one of its features.
