There are certain things we take as givens. Death and taxes, and all that – and as far as video games go, titles for your mobile can’t possibly be as engaging to play and visually stunning as their console counterparts. But someone apparently forgot to tell that to the developers at Codemasters.
The same studio behind the official Formula One console games is working in partnership with Eden Games on a new version for mobile. And while it’s billed as still a work in progress, early indications are that it looks pretty darn awesome already.
F1 Mobile Racing features all the tracks, teams, and drivers from the 2018 Formula One World Championship, of course – just like the console version. But it’ll also let you customize your car, upgrade it through an immersive R&D system, and take on other actual gamers with a multiplayer mode. All with what looks like it’ll be highly realistic game play (for a mobile device, at any rate).
The game’s been launched in Beta strictly in Thailand and the Philippines (for some reason), but is set to reach iOS followed by Android devices later this year. And we’re very much looking forward to playing it once it does. Best of all, it’ll be free to play (though we wouldn’t be surprised to see some in-app purchases available to upgrade along the way). For now, though, you can check out these early screen shots and gameplay trailer below for a taste of what’s to come to your handheld device.
