The (in)famous Nurburgring has claimed the integrity of yet another vehicle, an older generation Opel Astra GTC OPC – along, of course, with the driver’s pride.
Caught on camera this past weekend, the hot hatch can be seen trying to put as much space as possible between itself and two BMWs on its tail. However, in a split second, things turned bad, just as the driver entered a turn a bit too fast.
What happened next was pure physics, as Opel’s contender to the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Renault Megane RS, under-steered right into the side barriers. Luckily, the impact wasn’t too hard, and the two occupants, the female driver and her companion, exited the vehicle on their own, just as one of the two BMWs that was behind them pulled over on the side.

From this camera angle, it’s hard to see what kind of damages the car suffered. However, given that a tow truck arrived at the scene minutes later to take the Opel Astra GTC OPC away, it will most likely cost the owner a pretty penny.
Before moving on to the footage, we’ll remind you that the Astra H generation was in production between 2004 and 2009. The compact model was also sold as a Vauxhall, Holden, Chevrolet and Saturn, and assembly took place in several countries across the globe, from Germany to Russia, and from the UK to Egypt.
The three-door model was called the GTC, and in 2005, Opel introduced the OPC performance derivative, also known as the Vauxhall Astra VXR in the United Kingdom. It used a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 240PS (237hp / 177kW) and 320Nm (236lb-ft) of torque, and came with FWD only.
Other sporty bits meant to differentiate it from the non OPC models included a specific body kit, Recaro interior, larger wheels and chassis updates.
