Porsche’s Classic division is working on something very special and very top secret, going under the name ‘Project Gold’.
Official information at this point is really limited, with Porsche Classic opting to tease its new creation through a series of videos that will lead up to the great reveal on August 24.
The first of these videos shows what looks like a stripped 993 shell resting under a cover and Porsche’s designers finalizing their sketches.
“A classic body is the starting point for a vehicle that will ultimately become a truly unique piece – assembled in the Porsche Classic workshop and individualized by the sports car manufacturer’s designers,“ says Porsche on its website.
While we recognize the shape of the 993 generation, we still don’t know what Porsche Classic is going to do with it. Is it going to be a classic restoration with a range of bespoke touches or is it a fully modernized version of the last air-cooled 911?
If it’s the latter, then that means that Porsche is officially stepping into the restomod business as well, at least with this single car.
The special car will be revealed on August 24, with its public debut set for September 27. Apparently the ‘Project Gold’ isn’t a customer-ordered car as Porsche plans to auction it on October 27.
Stay tuned for the rest of the videos and for any additional information.
