We’ve seen a handful of cars owned by Queen Elizabeth II go up for sale in the past few years, but the latest model is notably more special than her Daimler Super V8 or Jaguar X-Type Estate. Fitting of the monarch, it’s a 1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Landaulette.
Set to be auctioned off at the Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival event in September, the car was built to celebrate Rolls-Royce’s Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary) and it was used by Her Majesty The Queen. Details about the car are sparse, but the auction company said the model was kept in the Royal Mews from 1959 to 2002.
After the Queen was done using the car, it was reportedly returned to Bentley. The automaker has held onto the model for a number of years, despite no longer being associated with Rolls-Royce. That’s no longer the case as the Phantom IV State Landaulette is part of a “marvelous collection of eight historically important motor cars” that were “held under the custodianship of Bentley” that are now going up for auction.
While the Queen’s X-Type Estate only sold for £15,000 ($19,692 / €16,834) in 2016, this particular Rolls-Royce is expected to fetch between £1 – £2 ($1.3 – $2.6 / €1.1 – €2.2) million .
Buyers looking for something more modern aren’t entirely out of the luck as the auction house is also offering a 1960 Rolls-Royce Phantom V High Roof State Limousine. Bonhams hasn’t said much about that particular model, but it is expected to bring in between £1 – £1.5 ($1.3 – $1.9 / €1.1 – €1.6) million.
Other notable models from the collection include the last Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph and a 2002 Rolls-Royce Corniche which holds the title as the last Rolls-Royce ever built at Crewe.
