This is without a doubt one of the worst type of incidents that can happen on the road. Losing control of a very large and heavy vehicle will often put multiple lives at risk.
Usually, when it involves semi trucks, we hear about drivers falling asleep at the wheel, or being unable to brake, either because they weren’t paying attention or because of a mechanical issue. This time, it was a tire blowout, and it nearly resulted in a deadly impact.
If the two vehicles had collided head-on, and at that speed, it’s hard to imagine anybody surviving that type of instant deceleration. It wouldn’t be impossible, but let’s just say that the odds wouldn’t be in your favor, unless you’re the one driving the much more massive machine.
Unfortunately, there’s not much the driver of the semi could have done to maintain control, especially at speed. The wet road obviously didn’t help either, but regardless, he was basically a passenger following the blowout. As for the other vehicle, its driver did a fairly good job to steer around the incoming truck, even though at one point it feels as if they were surprisingly comfortable with the maneuver and didn’t continue veering off the road.
Since the two vehicles still made contact, it proves that the avoidance maneuver shouldn’t have been finalized so swiftly. As long as they stayed away from those trees, going slightly more off road would have probably been best.
