What happened here was that a careless driver decided to turn left just as a motorcycle was passing by, sending the latter (and, of course, its rider) towards an unsuspecting pedestrian.
To our amazement, the woman was barely scratched by the flying bike, while the rider only sustained small injuries, according to the video’s description, and was released from the hospital on the same day.
The incident took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a store’s surveillance cameras captured the whole thing from both directions, including the angle that showed why the motorcycle came flying towards the woman.
As far as close calls go, this one is as extreme as they come. Half an inch closer, and she would have been seriously hurt, or worse. Obviously, being hit by the motorcycle would have been a lot more damaging than by the rider, but that too would have made for a very harsh collision, too.
In the end, had that driver checked their mirrors, they might have spotted the rider as he approached the vehicle. Of course, whether or not the rider should have been overtaking the car on the left-hand side right next to the curb is a whole different story, especially as Brazilians drive on the right side of the road, so overtaking must take place on the left.
