When Toyota launched the Prius, it expected it to become a best seller. We doubt, however, that it woule even think that one would become a monster of a drag racer.
Okay, this particular example doesn’t pack the stock hybrid powertrain and batteries, as these were swapped for a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 from a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
The 707 horses (717PS / 527kW) produced by the stock unit simply weren’t enough for this Toyota Prius, which then welcomed a 4.5-liter Whipple supercharger, special exhaust and probably other internals. As for the result, this would be a mighty 1,000hp (1,014PS / 746kW).

Despite all the work that went into it, the sleeper is actually lighter than the average Challenger SRT Hellcat. In fact, it’s said to be some 1,300lbs (590kg) lighter, and this makes it an absolute beast on the drag strip.
You shouldn’t bet your money on the SRT Demon either, as it couldn’t cope with this Toyota Prius, nor you should bet on a bunch of other machines that the former hybrid met on the drag strip, because it’s far superior.
Now, before moving on to the two videos posted at the bottom of the page, we’ll remind you that the Toyota Prius SRT8, as it was initially baptized, greeted visitors at the 2017 SEMA Show, in Las Vegas. Little did we know at the time that it’s far more than a concept…
Jay Leno met it up close and personal, too, in his very own garage, and needless to say he was very impressed with it.
