Volkswagen has put a price tag in the United Kingdom on the latest version to join the T-Roc family, the 1.6-liter TDI.

Slotting below the 150PS (148hp / 110kW) 2.0-liter TDI, it generates 115PS (113hp / 84kW) and 250Nm (184lb-ft) of torque and is offered strictly with front-wheel drive.

The engine meets the WLTP standards, emitting 115 g/km of CO2, and can be ordered on all grades. The four-cylinder is already powering different vehicles made by the Volkswagen Group, including the Golf and Touran, as well as the Seat Arona and Skoda Karoq.

In VW’s SUV, pricing starts from £21,290 ($27,810/€23,930) in the ‘S’ trim, or £2,335 ($3,050/€2,625) more than the entry-level T-Roc, which uses a 115PS (113hp / 84kW) and 200Nm (148lb-ft) 1.0-liter TSI petrol unit.

Standard gear in the base version includes LED DRLs, autonomous emergency braking system, climate control, an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, DAB and others. Opt for the range-topping T-Roc R-Line, however, which adds the specific styling in addition to more standard gear, and see the starting price climb to £27,010 ($35,281/€30,359).

Unveiled last summer, the T-Roc is the brand’s most affordable SUV. It slots under the Tiguan and Touareg and rivals the Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 3008.

Volkswagen is also working on a subcompact SUV, the T-Cross, which will be launched in October before going on sale across Europe next spring.
