Whether it’s the original R5 Turbo or the Turbo 2, driving any one of them should be on just about every petrolhead’s bucket list. Also, they’re pretty rare, so whenever one comes up for sale, we take notice.
Here is a 1985 R5 Turbo 2 Evolution, chassis number #49 of 200. It’s currently being auctioned off on Bring a Trailer, where it should end up fetching quite a hefty sum of money.
Aesthetically, this R5 Turbo 2 Evo is painted black with grey trim and features an aluminum roof as well as the nameplate’s iconic boxy flared fenders. According to the ad, the car also has its factory alloys, currently fitted with period-correct Michelin TRX rubber.
The car’s tan interior boasts cloth seats, black floor mats with Turbo 2 lettering, an original Iso Delta steering wheel, and two after market oil pressure and boost gauges added to the center console. Visually, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the cabin, which should come as a relief to any potential buyers.
Powering this R5 Turbo 2 Evolution is a 1.4-liter inline-four unit equipped with a Garrett turbocharger and intercooler and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The seller states that the car also comes with upgraded brakes and a custom exhaust system, while the odo reads 22,072 km (13,715 miles).
