Ford pulled the wraps off the 2019 Mustang Bullitt earlier this year, and now the company has lifted the embargo on driving impressions.
In her review for Roadshow, Emme Hall comes always pretty impressed with the performance-oriented model which slots in between the Mustang GT and Shelby Mustang GT 350.
A lot of the credit goes to the car’s upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine that now produces 480 hp (358 kW / 486 PS) and 420 lb-ft (568 Nm) of torque. This gives the model 20 hp (15 kW / 20 PS) more than the standard GT, but 46 hp (34 kW / 46 PS) less than the Shelby GT 350. Hall says the engine “loves to live under the high revs” and is connected to a six-speed manual transmission with a “great short-throw shifter.”
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as the Bullitt also comes equipped with an assortment of other performance features including an active exhaust, Brembo brakes and an intake manifold sourced from the GT 350. While these are nice additions, Hall criticized the car for not coming with the MagneRide semi-active suspension as standard. The system is optional, but she says it’s “totally worth it” as it makes the model more livable for daily driving purposes.
Overall, Hall says the Bullitt is really responsive and a bit “magical.” Unfortunately, it’s not all good news as the car isn’t exactly high-tech despite its base price of $46,595. As Hall notes, driver assistance features are largely limited to cruise control and a blind spot monitoring system.
Granted, it’s 2018 and people do notice these things (or their absence), but does this matter that much in a car like the Mustang Bullitt? Well, watch the review and you can make up your own mind.
